God's Many Wonders
Updated: May 22, 2021

God has been drawing me into deeper intimacy with Him. I’ve been listening to a podcast that touches on God delighting in us by enjoying the pleasure of His company.
On the podcast, Dutch Sheets told a story of “Old Faithful” at Yellowstone Park. There is a restaurant that overlooks the geiser. As people eagerly await the time of its eruption, it’s clear that after time, the waiters and employees have become desensitized to its wonder.
May we never lose our wonder.
We can fall into either category in our relationship with the Lord. We either lose the wonder of the awesome presence of our Lord and our worship becomes bland, or we miss out on His glory altogether! May our worship and wonder of God remain fresh and passionate always! May our love for Jesus consume our entire being, until every fiber is given to humble and passionate adoration of our Lord!
There is a spontaneous song I love by Amanda Cooke called, "Wonder". Its lyrics are beautiful and come to mind as I listened to the story above:
May we never lose our wonder
Wide-eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
Staring at the beauty of our King
Of course, God wants our attention. He will use many ways to get it when we become distracted or desensitized. I think about Job and how toward the end of his story, God had his full attention. Job recognized that even creation all around us points us to Him and His wonders:
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.” — Job 12:7-10
I was reminded of God’s wonder and how He can still pleasantly surprise me. Our daughter graduated from college last year and had been building up her resume. Seemingly by coincidence, a friend had recommended her to do some chalk drawings for menu boards at a shop in Manhattan. Her work there caught the attention of the owner of City Winery, a restaurant and music venue chain.
The owner hired my daughter to come do their chalk menu boards and other wall murals at their flagship in Chelsea Pier, Manhattan. Sometime after, she received a call where they inquired if she would like to interview for a position on their art and design team.
Following some phone interviews, she landed a dream position with their company!
You just never know the chain of events that God may lead you to your very heart’s desire!
“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret…” Psalm 37:4-7
Here’s another example of how God desires to show us just how wondrous He is.
One day, my husband was sitting outside enjoying his morning coffee on our patio. We have many squirrels that love our churchyard. One of them surprised him by coming right up to his feet, completely unafraid. My husband came inside for some nuts. This squirrel literally jumped up on his lap to eat the walnut!
Now, we realize that we shouldn’t feed them but they are seriously so cute! Now we have a little family that comes every day to hang out with us. We sit outside, enjoying the sunshine and these furry little creatures. We watch them, chucking at their silly antics. How fun that God would want to show us how He takes care of even the smallest of creatures and allows us to enjoy them. Thank you, Lord, for these simple pleasures.
So allow God to show you when to slow down, just sit with Him in His presence. Let Him show you how He loves you and is interested in the details of your life.
